VideoNow – A Boy Named Charlie Brown – Peanuts
Now the whole Peanuts family is available in a theatrical feature film, “A Boy Named Charlie Brown.” The animated, 85-minute feature follows the triumphs and travails of the bumbling Charlie through a series of spelling bees (which he wins due to his understandable familiarity with such words as “failure,” “insecure,” “incompetent” and “unconfident”) right up to the National Elimination Spelling Bee for Second Graders. En route, Charlie and his friends: Lucy, Schroeder, Linus, Snoopy the beagle, Sally and Violet, encounter numerous obstacles, all of which must be overcome before the fateful contest finals, the outcome of which you can probably guess. The film is characterized by the typical wry wit and bittersweet reflections that envelop viewers with the warmth of Linus’ blanket. Once again Charles Schulz uses the encounters of the little people as a metaphor for adult experiences, which is why “A Boy Named Charlie Brown” is a film for all ages.
